Mary Christine (Chris) Churchwell

Mary Christine “Chris” Churchwell, 79, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was born on September 26, 1932 in Adel and graduated from Valdosta High School with the Class of 1950. For over fifteen years Chris was a sales clerk in the Garden Center at Kmart, Valdosta. She enjoyed gardening and music, especially attending Mt. Zion Music Hall on Saturday nights.

She is survived by one daughter, Tonya “Tar” Thompson of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, George Michael Churchwell and Jill of Vilano Beach, FL; her number one and only granddaughter, Mackenzie Rae Churchwell of Jacksonville, FL; her beloved cat, “Sam the Ham”; a special friend and her former husband, Billy Ward Churchwell of Valdosta; two sisters, Jeanie Nieman of Hahira and Billie Taylor of Adel; three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Evelyn Cannington Daughtry.
