Mary Charles Leverette, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully, at home and in her sleep, on Saturday, July 16th, just weeks short of her 91st birthday. Born to Charles Gallant Fendley and Maymie Louise Pylant of Tallahassee, Mary Charles married John C. Leverette, Jr. (deceased, 1987) just prior to his training as a navigator/bombardier in World War II. They shared an adventurous life and career in the Air Force that took them to several continents. Her trophy-worthy skills at golf, bowling and bridge, combined with her Southern graciousness and considerable charm garnered lifelong friends wherever they went. A truly gifted hostess, Mary Charles' recipes, in the hands of many reading these words now, are treasured reminders of shared time, love and celebration. Her indomitable spirit and unfailing optimism are forever ours to draw upon.
We 4 daughters, whose lives have been informed and blessed by Mother's devotion to family, are Elizabeth Audretch, Vicki Leverette Ricketts, Mary Joe Leverette-Goodwin and Deborah Leverette Shaw. Equally blessed are her 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services, conducted by the Reverend Shannon Patterson of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta, will be held at Carson McLane Funeral Home Saturday, July 23rd, visitation at 10:00 a.m. with service following at 11:00 a.m. Also on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m., a graveside service is to be held at Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee.
