Mary C. Crane, 88, of Valdosta died at her home on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska on her father's 40th birthday, Mary Catherine, was the youngest of five children born to Charles and Hazel Covington. Formerly of Newport Beach and Santa Ana, California, Mrs. Crane was an active member of the Santa Ana Junior Assistants League and a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood. Upon moving to Valdosta over 40 years ago, Mrs. Crane served as an American Red Cross Blood Drive coordinator for many years. She was costume coordinator for the city of Valdosta's Bi-Centennial celebration in 1976. In 1978, Mrs. Crane was elected to a three year term on the Valdosta State College Foundation Board of Trustees.

She was a member and Past President of the Mystery Ball Club, charter member of the Cabaret Club and a member of the Symphony Guild. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Valdosta and the Women's Circle No. 1. For many years, Mrs. Crane served in the Break Bread Together program, a ministry of the First Presbyterian Church. Her participation in Break Bread was something she held closest to her heart.

Survivors are her husband of 66 years, W. Ed Crane of Valdosta; sons and daughter-in-law, Bill Crane of Sebastopol, California, Scott and Dale Crane of Valdosta; daughter, Ruby Shen of Edgewater, New Jersey; grandchildren, Gracie Crane Douglas of Valdosta, Will (Erinn) Crane of Atlanta; great grandchild, Audrey Douglas of Valdosta; a loving and devoted friend, Alma Hampton of Valdosta and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crane was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Helen and Bonnie and brothers, Phil and Dick.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Jerry Long will officiate. A private family committal will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The Crane family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 -7 p.m. at their home at 910 Moss Way, Valdosta.
