Mary Ann Cowart Griffis, 86, of Valdosta, passed from this life into eternity on Sunday June 11, 2023. A loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary Ann was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Born in Valdosta on June 1, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Wilton and Myrtle Chaney Cowart. Mary Ann was the widow of the late Kelson John Griffis, a disabled Air Force Veteran, who passed in 1986.
Survivors are her son: Gary Griffis of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter: Marsha Zink of Valdosta; Grandchildren: Laura Reynolds (Daniel) of Memphis; Jason Griffis (Sunny) of Fairhope, Alabama; John Griffis of Longmont, Colorado; Renee Zink (T.J.) and Ashley Zink of Valdosta; Kimberly Zink of Moultrie. Great grandchildren: Austin, Gavin, Carson, and Madison Reynolds, all of Memphis; Alyssa and Chase of Fairhope, AL; Bailey and Chole Hamilton of Valdosta; Arie and Arick Pettit, and Aaryn Zink of Moultrie; Tony and Nora Burnham of Valdosta; her sister, Betty Jo Hewitt of Ocala, Fl; close friend of the family treated as a granddaughter: Nikki Tissot (Seth). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Patsy Hudgins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Griffis will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Gary Griffis will give the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until service time. The burial will take place at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
