Mary Ann Chaney, 82, of Valdosta was taken home by our Father God on May 8, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. Mary Ann was born in May Day, Georgia on May 8, 1938 to the late John and Eva (Campbell) Allen. She was one of seven children. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Easton H. Stoddard, Jr. (1973) and James E. Chaney (2010). She is survived by her children Amy Chaney Crumley, Beverly Stoddard Pitzing, John Michael Stoddard (Carol), Debbie Stoddard Wilder (Luther) Brenda Chaney de la Cruz (Frank), and her grand dog Kody Payne Pitzing. Mary Ann is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann loved her family and spent her life doing the most difficult and rewarding job there is, making a home and raising her children. She was an active and dedicated member of New Harvest United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and bowled every Thursday morning with the women’s coffee league for over 40 years. She was member of the Red Hatters and enjoyed “lunch bunch” with her friends and Ray’s Mill Pond on Friday nights. She also traveled extensively with the Valdosta Senior Citizens Happy Travelers Club.
A graveside service will be held Monday, May 11, 2020 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday.
