Marvin Paul Nichols, Sr. passed away peacefully at South Georgia Medical Center on Thursday, February 05, 2015. He was born on October 28, 1927 in Brooks County, Georgia to the late Pauline Nichols O'Neal and Conrad Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy Nichols and sister Betty Jo Nichols.
He graduated from Emory University Junior College in Valdosta in 1952. He was a World War II era veteran of the U.S. Army, followed by service in the Air National Guard. He then served as an U.S. Air Force Cadet during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Nichols was a counselor for 10 years with the Georgia Department of Labor before spending 28 years as a pharmaceutical sales representative. Through the years, he became interested in land development and construction, creating three residential subdivisions—Sherwood Forrest, Madison Heights and Sportsman's Cove. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He had a generous spirit and the greatest joy in life was the love he had for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Langford Nichols; one son, Paul Nichols (Janet) of Valdosta, Georgia; one daughter, Lisa Robbins (John) of Mountain Brook, Alabama; three grandchildren, John Paul Nichols, Anna Robbins and Jack Robbins; brother, Norman Nichols of Valdosta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to his special caregivers Geraldine McCray, Wendy Morrison, Angela Hart and Mae Koonce.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Tart officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015 at McLane Funeral Home. Condolences may be conveyed at www.mclanecares.com
