Martin (Marty) Lawrence Heaney, 83 of Hahira, died on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on May 7, 1923, in Fond du Lac County, WI, he was the son of the late Martin and Meta Mueller Heaney. He was founder of M. L. Heaney Trucking and of South Georgia Truck Service. He retired from the United States Air Force having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict and received commendations and numerous awards. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Air Force Sergeants Association and was in the select group of first soldiers transferred to the Army Air Corps.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thad and Phyllis Ramsden Heaney of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine Eggers of Fond du Lac, WI, Mary Lynne and Jack Karst of Eldorado, WI and Patricia Marie and Jim Steverson of Jackson, MS; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Marilyn Heaney of Bloomington, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Jerdee, Esther and Fritz Mand and Lyle Huth all of Fond du Lac, WI; former wife, Lou Nelle Carroll Heaney of Valdosta; stepdaughter and her husband, Dodie R. and John Ron Powers of Lake Park; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Huth of Fond Du Lac, WI.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Gerald Poole will officiate.
