Martha Dean York

Martha Dean Rountree York “Mot”, 86, passed away at her residence in Barney on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born in Morven, GA on December 5, 1938, to the late Roy and Vinnie Lee Hall Rountree, she dedicated 56 years of her life as a teller at Citizens Community Bank in Morven. Well-known for her warm personality and friendly nature, she never failed to make a lasting impression on those she met. Martha graduated from high school in 1957, having played basketball for the Morven Eagles. Her cherished moments were spent with family, often delighting in leisurely drives through the scenic countryside of Morven, Hahira, and Barney. 

Martha is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Chet Mitchell of Barney; grandchildren, Corey Mitchell (Maggie Sadler) of Barney, GA, Ethan Mitchell, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Tyler Mitchell (Tayla Mitchell), of Barney, GA, and Kaleb Mitchell (Katie Copenhaver), of Barney, GA; as well as ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Rountree Sharpe of Barney, and brother-in-law, Roland Edwards. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas Robert Rountree, sister Dorothy Ann Rountree Edwards, and infant brother, Thomas Roy Rountree Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Campground Cemetery in Morven, officiated by Pastor Stan Folsom. Expressions of sympathy and online condolences can be shared with the family at www.mclanefuneralservices.com
