Martha Anne Strickland, 84, of Barney, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at her residence. Born in Adel to the late T.E. & Ina Brown and grew up in several towns in Georgia and North Florida to include the New Lois community, Sycamore and Ft. Pierce before returning to Ashburn. There she worked at the Turner County Stockyards, helped her husband operate The Dog House Restaurant and then went to work for the Turner County Sheriff’s Department. In the sheriff’s dept. she rose in the ranks, eventually becoming the Chief Jailer and retired as Captain Martha Anne McCard in 2002, following her husband’s death. She moved to Barney in 2002 after marrying Danny Strickland. Martha Ann loved traveling and was able to visit 48 states, and was also a very crafty person, sewing clothing for children and grandchildren, cooking and taking care of her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Barney Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Daniel Strickland, of Barney; son and daughter in law, Elwyn “Buddy”, Jr. & Alexandra Blanton of High Springs, FL; two daughters and sons in law, Lisa Ann & Mathew Moree of Sylvester, and Robyn Marlene & John McCarthy of Madison, GA; bonus son and daughter in law, Keevan & Jeana Strickland of Valdosta; three grandsons, Brandon Blanton, Kyle Blanton and John Moree; five granddaughters, Bryn Blanton, Rachel Peoples, Sara (& Vince) Gilliard, Olivia Austin and Victoria(& Nick) Bradfield. Also surviving is her brother, Thomas Edwin Brown, of Ashburn and seven great grandchildren, Mason Blanton, Drake Blanton, Gunner, Jude Blanton, Kade Peoples, Juniper Bradfield, Ellie Gilliard and bonus grandchildren, Heath Strickland, Zach (& Peyton) Strickland, Kady (& Kyle) Gleason, LaRae Seemann; bonus great grandchildren, Aedyn Strickland, Braxton Gleason, Mercer Strickland, Walton Strickland, Harper Gleason, Sawyer Strickland and Stetson Strickland.
The funeral for Mrs. Strickland will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Stan Folsom will officiate. The burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
