Martha Ellen Sansberry, 82, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Langdale Hospice House after a lengthy illness. Born in Lakeland, Georgia on February 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Creed Davis Sasser and Janie Cleo Read Sasser. Mrs. Sansberry was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. She was a generous, loving mother and grandmother and a dedicated Christian lady who walked the walk and talked the talk.
Survivors are a daughter and son in law, Janie and Ronald Avery of Valdosta, one son, John V. (Johnny) Sansberry, Jr. of Lake Park, three grandchildren, Ron Avery, Jr. US Navy, Ret. (June) of Norfolk, Virginia, Jennifer Avery of Valdosta and Lisa Okroi (Sam) of Norman, Oklahoma, great grandchildren, Ashley Avery, US Navy, of Sicily, Italy, Lauren Avery of Norfolk, Virginia, Hanna Hanna (Justin) of Easley, South Carolina, Austin Myers of Tifton, Alesa Bennett of Valdosta, Morgan Okroi and Samantha Okroi of Norman, Oklahoma; ZoeAnn Hanna of Easley, South Carolina; sisters in law, Emma Moore (Jimmy) and Marlene Sansberry Evans of Valdosta and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sansberry was preceded in death by her husband John Vernon Sansberry, Sr. and a brother, William Sasser.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Chip Fuller will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanecares.com.
