Martha Mcleod Simmons

Martha McLeod Simmons, 63, of Valdosta died on Monday, May 30, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. A Valdosta native she was born on June 12, 1947. Mrs. Simmons was retired from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office where she had worked as a Custodian.

Survivors are her husband, Walter Simmons of Valdosta, her mother, Annie Jewel Wright McLeod of Valdosta, brothers and sisters in law, Albert and Sandra McLeod of Barney, Allen and Ellen McLeod, Alton J. "Peanut" McLeod, James Alvin and Christine McLeod all of Valdosta, a sister, Rose McLeod Gaskins of Valdosta, a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, James A. McLeod, Sr., brother, Robert Jackson McLeod and brother in law, Lawton L. Gaskins.

Services will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 4 p.m. in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Charles Vinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
