Martha Jean Grant Copeland, 79, of Valdosta died on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born on December 27, 1933 in Valdosta to the late Charlie B. and Thelma O'Neal Grant and has been a lifelong resident of this community. She graduated from Valdosta High School and attended Florida Christian and Valdosta State College where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education. She is a retired educator having taught at Valdosta Junior High School, Georgia Christian School, and Lowndes Middle School. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved and lived life to the fullest. Mrs. Copeland was a member of the Dasher Church of Christ.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Cindy Copeland of Valdosta, Scott and Tamara Copeland of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Burt and Michelle Copeland of Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, Nick and Kami Copeland and Drew and Jennifer Copeland all of Valdosta, Megan and James Vineyard of Maysville, Georgia, Kendall Copeland and Jared Copeland of Dahlonega, Erin Copeland, Emmy Copeland, Grant Copeland, Evan Copeland all of Valdosta; 4 great-grandchildren, Jovie Copeland, Kady Anne Copeland, Jettie Copeland and Kallie Mae Copeland all of Valdosta; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Young of Crestview, Florida, Virginia and Frank Polhill of Perry, Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Carlyen Grant of Perry, Florida and O'Neal and Faye Grant of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Gene Copeland, and three bothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Dot Grant, Billy Grant, and Bobby and Totsie Grant.
Services for Martha Jean Grant Copeland will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Dasher Church of Christ with Mr. David Nelson and Mr. John Klimko officiating. A private family committal will follow the services. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
