Martha Clayton

March 12, 1935 — August 2, 2011

Martha Jean Wetherington Clayton, 76, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Born on March 12, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Robert E. and Lola Dasher Wetherington. Mrs. Clayton graduated from Valdosta High School in 1953. She was employed with the Valdosta Post Office and also worked for many years at Hall's Children's Shop. More recently, Mrs. Clayton worked as a Hallmark Card merchandiser. She was a faithful lifetime member of Central Avenue Church of Christ.

Survivors are her husband of 53 years, George W. Clayton, Jr., daughters, Dee Arnold and Sheree Hudson all of Valdosta; granddaughters, Stephanie S. (Mike) Lindamood and Savannah Sainz of Statesboro, Emily Arnold of the U.S. Marine Corp; great granddaughter, Abby Lindamood of Statesboro; sisters in law, Ruth Wetherington of Arlington, West Virginia, Gloria Wetherington of Jacksonville, Florida; brother in law, Elbert Lindsey of Gainesville, Florida; nieces and nephews, Vickie Hoffman of Iowa, Bobby Wetherington and Kathleen Clark of Arlington, West Virginia, Holly Nordeng and Nelson Wetherington of Jacksonville, Florida, Randall Wetherington of Maryville, Tennessee, Beth Lindsey Fisher of Gainesville, Florida; numerous cousins including a special cousin, Sara White; and many other relatives, friends, and church family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by brothers, Robbie, Orman, Roger D., Grady and Clyde Wetherington; sisters in law, Betty Clayton Lindsey, Peggy Wetherington and Mary Ann Wetherington; sons in law, Cleve Arnold and Russ Hudson; nieces, Debra Wetherington and Robin Wetherington Moore.

Funeral services will take place in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Thursday at 10 a.m. Mr. John Klimko and Mr. Jerry DeLoach will officiate and burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Central Avenue Church of Christ @ 304 E.
