Martha Bennett Ward, 76, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, at her home.
She was born April 27, 1939, in Cook County, a daughter of the late Roy and Myrtice Whiddon Bennett. Ms. Ward was of the Baptist faith; and had worked at Crackin' Good Bakery for over twenty years, retiring due to her health. She loved to cook, sew and greatly enjoyed fishing.
She is survived by her son, Robert Miller of Valdosta; her daughter, Geralda Israel of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Elijah Miller and wife Heather, Joshua Miller, Brandi Sumner and husband Wade, Dylan Israel, and Caelie Hunnicutt; eight great-grandchildren, including two her were very special to her, Aubrey and Trenton Brooks; three sisters, Mary Virginia Flurry, Joan McCranie and husband Charles, and Shelia Bennett, all of Valdosta; three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Bennett, Jan Bennett, and Jean Myers, all of Valdosta; many nieces and nephews; and a special daughter, Connie and husband Duane Hewitt of Hahira. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Lennis and Larue Bennett; and a sister, Phyllis Freisen.
The Graveside Service for Ms. Ward will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Friendship Cemetery, with Elder Thad Marshall and Rev. Webster Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
