Mark Cowart, 51, of Valdosta, died suddenly on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his residence. Born in Decatur, GA, he grew up in Newport News, VA. After graduating from high school there, he began a career in the restaurant business. Mark worked for a number of different restaurants in the Newport News, Hampton and Richmond, VA area in the early 2000’s. He then moved to Savannah and continued his restaurant career at the Lady & Sons, working with Paula Dean and her sons for several years. Returning to Valdosta to be closer to family, he worked at several restaurants and bars in Remerton but also the The Ravine at Kinderlou Forest Country Club and Sams Club. Skateboarding and surfing the Outer Banks and the Virginia Beaches were favorite pastimes for Mark, especially when he was younger. He was well known and loved by his friends throughout the years.
Survivors include his parents, Elton & Priscilla Cowart of Valdosta; a brother and sister in law, Tim & Corrie Cowart of Dallas, OR; five nephews, Eric Cowart, Luke Cowart, Joel Cowart, Zach Cowart and Nathanial Cowart, also two uncles and aunts, Richard & Jeanne Cowart of Valdosta, Bill & Debbie Cowart of Valdosta; and two aunts and an uncle, Cynthia & Brooks Nelson and Maureen Harms and numerous cousins and other relatives. Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents, Grace & Fred Harms, Teeny & E.L. Cowart and two uncles and an aunt, Fred Harms and Richard & Jimmie Lee Harms.
A memorial service will be held for Mark at 11 am on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Park Avenue Church. Rev. Jimmy Towson will officiate.
