Marilynn Phillips, 81, of Valdosta died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Fellowship Home. She was born in Olar, South Carolina on April 10, 1928 to the late Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Crowder, Sr. and had lived in Valdosta since 1958. She was a graduate of Elmore County High School in Eclectic, Alabama, attended Judson College and was a graduate of Auburn University. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles B. Phillips and a son, Wesley Phillips. She was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church where she taught first grade Sunday School. Mrs. Phillips retired as a library assistant from Valdosta State University.
Survivors include a son, Michael Phillips of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Lynn and James Mashburn of Kennesaw, GA., four grandchildren, Justin Phillips of Stafford, TX., Matthew Phillips of Duncanville, TX., Emily Mashburn of Dunwoody, GA. and Christopher Mashburn of Hiram, GA., her brother and two sisters in law, Thomas L. and Kathy Crowder of Albany, GA. and Sara Phillips of Montgomery, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Monday, July 27, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. V. L. Daughtery officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 4-6pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimers Association.
