Marilyn Lee McGuyrt, 71, of Valdosta, died on Friday, April 8, 2011 after a seven year courageous battle with cancer. Born in Coffee County to the late James Clifford & Mayolene Kirkland Lee, she had lived in Valdosta for the past 63 years. Marilyn was known to her family and friends as the most wonderful and caring person. She truly allowed her faith and love to shine in her life. A soft spoken person, she led and gained the respect of others through her caring actions. Mrs. McGuyrt served on the Executive Committee of the Haven Battered Women�s Shelter. She also spent her life volunteering for other ministries including Meals on Wheels, The Rape Crisis Center and the Pregnancy Support Clinic. She was a faithful member of her church, New Covenant Church and retired from the Valdosta Board of Pardons and Paroles after 15 years. Mrs. McGuyrt greatly enjoyed the outdoors including activities such as gardening and yard work. She also loved traveling and spending time with her family each year at the beach and for holiday meals.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Calvin McGuyrt of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Tammy and Bob Wingard of Orange, TX., Jan and Andy Diamond of Atlanta, one son and daughter in law, Mack and Sandi McGuyrt of Jacksonville, Fla., two brothers and sister in law, Quinton Lee of Valdosta, Kermit and Mary Lee of Thomasville, grandchildren, Danny White, Derek White, Jon Wingard all of Orange, TX., Hannah Diamond, Ansley Diamond both of Atlanta, Hayley Foran, Holden Foran both of Jacksonville, Fla., great grandchild, Preston White of Orange, TX., nieces, LaVonta Sue Caldwell of Jacksonville, Fla., Dana Rollins of Thomasville, nephew, Kevin Lee of Thomasville.
Homegoing services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at New Covenant Church with Pastor Randy Stephen, Pastor L.A. Joyner, Rev. Jimmy White and Mr. Ronnie Hesters officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
