Marilyn Newell King, also known as “GiGi,” of Lake Park, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born February 5, 1946, to the late Donald and Margaret Newell. Although she was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, her father moved the family to Winter Haven, Florida, where she spent the majority of her high school years and made lasting friendships. Her father served as the minister of The First Nazarene Church in Winter Haven. In the summer of 1993, she moved to Lake Park, Georgia. Here, she met the love of her life, John King. It was love at first sight. John and Marilyn were married on February 21, 1994, and recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary. Since moving to Lake Park, Marilyn has spent the majority of her life, serving the Lord and educating children. She was a faithful member of Central Avenue Church of Christ, and a proud follower of our Lord, Jesus Christ. One of Marilyn’s many accomplishments included obtaining a Master’s degree in education. For thirty-four years, she tirelessly worked to educate students and build life-long relationships with those she educated and worked with.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, John King, of Lake Park; children Nicole Altepeter of Lake Park, Christy King of Valdosta, and Greg (Kathryn) King of Lake Park; grandchildren Ella Rose Clifford, Rhett Clifford, Silas Altepeter, Weston King, Will King, Jacob Baxter, Alexia Baxter, Hunter Baxter, Cassadie Baxter, Michael Baxter, Anna Baxter, and Kinsley Baxter; brother Donald (Carla) Newell, Jr., of Ft. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Margaret Newell; and brother, John Allan Newell.
