Marian F. Rountree, 82, of Valdosta, died on Monday, May 26, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Daytona Beach, Florida, on February 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John Wendell and Maude Richerson Mallery Finkell. Mrs. Rountree was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church in Valdosta and Union United Methodist Church in Conyers. She was an employee of the State of Georgia for several years working for PSC and the National Guard. She spent several years of her life as a caregiver to her children. She loved spending time and playing games with her family. Mrs. Rountree was a true "Southern Belle" who took great pride in her appearance.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Melanie Rountree of Valdosta, granddaughters, Tara Rountree, Trista (Joey) Rountree Wisenbaker of Valdosta; sisters, Virginia Hockett of Valdosta, Margaret Hall of St. Augustine, Florida; son-in-law, Danny Locke of Atlanta, step grandsons, Steven (Cathy) Locke, Adam (Shay) Locke of Atlanta; a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rountree was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Rountree, daughters, Linda Rountree Locke, Saundra Rountree, a son, Jerry Rountree and five brothers.
The family will receive friends in Valdosta at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Conyers at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home on Friday, May
30, 2008 at 11 a.m. Reverend Jimmy Hood will officiate. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gideons or to the Kidney Foundation. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com
