Maria Guadalupe Zarate De Chavez, 74, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Rancho El Rodeo, San Antonio, Michoacan, Mexico, she was the daughter of Guillermo Zarate-Calderon and Maria Gonzalez DeJesus Zarate. Maria was a member of Open Bible Hispanic Church. She was a very dedicated church member, a Sunday School teacher, and active with the church Women’s Conference. She read and studied her Bible each and every day. She was known for her kind heart and as a role model for others. Maria loved her grandchildren.
Survived by her husband, Isaias Chavez of Valdosta; a son, Antonio Chavez of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Marta, and Orlando Lerma of Statenville, son, David Chavez of Valdosta; grandchildren, Brianna Lerma, Orlando Lerma, and Jacob Lerma all of Statenville; a brother, Guillermo Zarate of North Carolina. Maria was preceded in death by a brother, Etelberto Zarate and a sister-in-law, Lucia Gonzalez-Zarate.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Felix Valdez will officiate. The family will gather to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 am until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. www.mclanecares.com.
