Maria Cadenas, 11, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, following a very brief illness. Born in Mexico, Maria and her family have lived in this area for several years. Maria was a student at Westside Elementary School. She loved her school and was very excited about graduating from the 5th Grade. Maria was a shy girl, but also loved her friends and especially loved reading all kinds of books. She was very close to her family and she pushed her brother to do his best in school, she was a caretaker for her little sisters and helped her parents in many ways including helping them communicate and learn English. She always showed others that she cared by her actions. Maria was a member of the Hispanic Nazarene Church in Quitman.
Maria is survived by her parents, Jesus & Mayra Cadenas; her brother, Carlos Cadenas and her sisters, Jatsiri, Alondra, and Mayra Cadenas, all of Valdosta. Also surviving are her grandparents, Maria & Miguel Delgado of Mexico and Ernestina Mendoza of Mexico. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Carlos Mendoza.
Graveside services for Maria will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Pastor Ricardo Munoz will officiate.
