Margueritte B. Nix, 88, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
She was born November 8, 1924 in Linton, GA, daughter of the late Alexander H. and Agnes E. Janes Boyer. After graduating from Albany High School, she attended Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville. For twenty-eight years Mrs. Nix was a Civil Service employee at Moody Air Force Base. She was the only woman in the first class at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, trained for the position of Traffic Safety Specialist, which was created by the U.S. Air Force in 1969. She was a member of First Baptist Church, loved spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and reading. In later years she especially loved the audio books from the Talking Book Center.
Mrs. Nix is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Gay Nix of Monroe, GA; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Brooker of Valdosta, and Charlotte and James Waters of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Melanie and husband Ignacio Perez-Lugones of Johns Creek, GA, Jamey and wife Karen Waters of Suwanee, GA, Ginger and husband Brian Cagley of Valdosta, Mary Waters of Valdosta, B.J. Nix of Monroe, GA, Megan and husband David Scott of Monroe, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Searles of Johns Creek, GA, Alex Cagley and Graham Cagley of Valdosta, Sarabie Waters of Valdosta, Kaden Waters and Kaitlyn Waters of Suwanee, GA, and Jenna Nix of Monroe, GA; a special niece, Carol and husband Dr. Gil Watson of Atlanta; and several nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the loving care given to Mrs. Nix by her caregivers, Shana Allen, Derricka Allen, Pam Gary, Angela Hart and Wendy Morrison. Their companionship meant so very much to "Mama Nix".
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Nix will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. A private family committal service will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery, Milledgeville, GA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
