Margie Hall Goodyear, 87, of Hahira, died at her residence on Sunday, July 19, 2015 following a brief illness. Mrs. Goodyear was born to the late Walter Colquit Hall and Mary Rilla Hodges Hall on July 17, 1928. She grew up in Hahira and the family attended First Baptist Church where she was baptized by Rev. Austin Turner in 1941. She graduated from Hahira High School in the mid 1940's and married her late husband, Duncan Rudolph "D.R." Goodyear on September 12, 1946. The family moved to Carlsbad NM in January 1950. The Goodyears lived in Carlsbad for 25 years. During those years she was active as a homemaker and a mother and she treasured the blessing of teaching the children in Sunday School there in her church. In February of 1974, she and her family moved back to Hahira to be close to family. After moving back, she was able to fulfill her love for decorating by becoming a floral designer for Weeks Decorating. She continued in her membership of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and a son in law, Phyllis Hahne of Texas, and Louise & Gary Williams of Hahira; a son, Travis Goodyear of Oregon; four grandchildren, Bryan (Melissa) McWilliams and Kevin (Stacey) McWilliams, all of Texas, Kari Anne (Chaz) Bowden of Valdosta and Benjamin (Niki) Williams of Nashville, TN. Also surviving are two sisters, Montez Fausett of Adel, Audrey McNeal of Hahira and three great grandchildren, Collin, Kaylee & Emma McWilliams, all of Texas and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Merlene Martin and a brother, Jullian Hall.
The funeral for Mrs. Goodyear will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Hahira. Rev. David Gordon will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Martin/McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P.O.
