April 2, 1946 - November 16, 2024
Mrs. Margaret “Teen” Marshall, 78, of Hahira, Ga, passed away November 16, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.
Teen grew up in Cook County on Hutchinson Mill Pond Rd in a strong rural community. As a teenager, she was an honor graduate and majorette at Cook High School. Her academic success helped her win a scholarship to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta where she majored in English and was an active member of the student body. Teen’s time at Oglethorpe fostered the deepest friendships of her life and her love of Pokey, Jan and Marie remained steadfast.
An avid intellect, Teen pursued advanced education, earning two masters degrees in Education from Georgia State University and Appalachian State University. Her career included teaching positions in elementary schools and special education roles. One of her proudest achievements was becoming a Professor of Education at Gardner Webb University’s College of Education in Boiling Springs, NC. She loved working with young people and having the opportunity to teach aspiring teachers.
Teen’s greatest passion was her family, particularly her two daughters. Together, they spent many happy summers at Camp Greystone in Tuxedo, NC, with Teen working as a tennis instructor and in the camp office. She loved reading, sewing, cooking and travel, and was blessed with overseas trips to New Zealand, Scotland, England, Spain and France. She also deeply loved St. Simons Island, politics, conversation and her country.
In 2004, she married Wade Marshall and became a part of his wonderful extended family. Wade and Teen shared twenty devoted years together in their home on Futch Road and she developed loving relationships with his 3 daughters and their children.
She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Jewel Varn; father, George Varn, as well as her infant twin boys, William Monroe and Edwin Thomas and her special aunt, Louise Varn.
She is survived by her husband Wade Marshall and her daughters, Erin Leonard (Bart) of London, England and Lindsey Smith (Jeff) of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ben and Mary Leonard; sister, Martha Dasher; nephew, Scott Dasher; niece Melanie Morone; and cousin Mike Lindsey. In her Marshall family she is survived by daughters Leanne Brendle (Mike), Mary Owens (Jason), Kim Horn (Jared); and grandchildren Marshall and McKinley Horn, Landon and Alden Owens and Wade Brendle.
Teen’s lifelong friend Janie Baldree Glenn and helper Ann Kincaid provided much love and support in recent years.
