Margaret Rivers

Margaret Rivers, 76, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was born October 29, 1937, in Worth County, a daughter of the late Daniel L. Bius, Sr. and the late Lila Callaway Bius. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Worth County, and attended Lee Street Baptist Church, Valdosta. Mrs. Rivers was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was strong and for many years she endured medical issues. The family appreciates the care given to her by Dr. Adames and Dr. Farquhar.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Roy Hall of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Lisa Smith of N. Augusta, SC; six grandchildren, Sam Douthit of N. Augusta, SC, Lorrie Douthit of Valdosta, Dorothy Howell and husband Calvin of Valdosta, Chase Smith of N. Augusta, SC, J.T. Smith of Valdosta, and Joe Smith of Valdosta; four great-grandchildren, Marcie Merwin of Valdosta, Ashely Howell of Valdosta, Jackie Merwin of Quitman, and Zach Douthit of Columbus; two sisters, Preble Pate of Albany, and Claire Ethridge of Doerun; two brothers, Leon Bius and wife Faye of Doerun, and Daniel Bius and wife Joyce of Murphy, NC; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Catrina Paschal of Valdosta, and David Stone of Valdosta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul E. Smith, and her husband, Carl T. Rivers.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Rivers will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Sayre and Rev. Creston Hulett officiating. Private interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Worth County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
