Margaret Garner Tankersley

Margaret Garner Tankersley, 89, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. She was born in Lowndes County on October 25, 1920 to the late Walter W. & Sallie W. Dasher. Mrs. Tankersley began her career as the extension clerk in the Lowndes County Agricultural Agent's Office and later worked at the Georgia Fertilizer Company and then the Department of Family and Children Services where she retired in 1982. She taught Bible Class for over forty years and was currently a member of the Forrest Park Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sons and daughters in law, Bruce & Evelyn Garner of Lake Park, Wallace and Jan Garner of Hahira, Don & Theresa Garner of Valdosta and a daughter and son in law, Sally & David Wilkinson of Hahira. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Sheri G. Lokey, Jason (Michelle) Garner, Kevin (Buffy) Garner, Mindy G. (Scott) Moore, Jonathan (Malissa) Garner, Ashli G. (Justin) Rogers, and Emily Wilkinson, and eight great grandchildren, Christian Moore, Brittni Moore, Brooke Moore, Macie Garner, Ally Garner, Katie Garner, Julie Lokey and Beth Lokey. Mrs. Tankersley is preceded in death by two husbands, Neuland W. Garner and Eddie L (Dodie) Tankersley; a grandson, John Timothy Garner; six brothers, John L. Dasher, W. Remer Dasher, Joseph W. Dasher, Roy J. Dasher & Robert F. Dasher; and three sisters, Minnie Clyde Wisenbaker, Sara E. Robinson and Frances Finney DeVane.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tankersley will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at Forrest Park Church of Christ. Mr. Bill Ward, Mr. Justin Rogers and Mr. Ray Joyner will officiate. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Latin American Mission Fund at Forrest Park Church of Christ, 4263 Inner Perimeter Road, Valdosta GA 31602; the Georgia Christian School, 4359 Dasher Road, Valdosta, GA 31601 or the Raintree Village Children's Home, 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, GA 31601.
