Margaret E. Merwin

Margaret E. Merwin, 86, of Hahira, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born September 22, 1929 in Cook County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Georgia Futch. Margaret grew up on the family farm, graduated from high school in Adel and South Georgia State College in Douglas. She married E. C. (Jack) Merwin and the two worked side by side in the tobacco market until Jack passed away in 1984. She was his devoted caretaker during his illness. She resumed her career in the tobacco market and fostered a loving work family at Perkins Warehouse in Nashville, GA where she worked as their bookkeeper until the age of 84.
Mrs. Merwin was a member of Hahira United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class where she loved her church family. She enjoyed her yard work, feeding her birds and chasing away the squirrels.
Margaret is preceeded in death by her husband, E. C. "Jack" Merwin, Sr., son, E. C. "Jackie" Merwin, Jr. and infant brother, George Futch. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Pam Merwin of Adel and Phil and Barbara Merwin of Adel, one daughter, Monya Webb of Valdosta, nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, James and Marion Deas of Jennings, FL and sister, Mona Sheppard of Tifton and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Willing Workers Sunday School Class at Hahira United Methodist Church to support their Bible ministry.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, August 1, 2016 at ten a. m. at Futch Cemetery in Cook County with Reverend Mike Davis officiating. Burial will follow.
