Margaret Barrett Guess

Margaret Barrett Guess, 75, of Valdosta died on Friday, February 18, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Valdosta on March 28, 1935 to the late Frank Payne and Fannie Shiver Barrett and has been a lifelong resident of Valdosta and Lowndes County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lake Park Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert Lee Guess of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bob De La Cruz of Vienna, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Theresa Guess; daughter, Laura Guess and a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Mishelle Guess all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Klint and Jessica Guess of Tifton, Allan and Rachel Guess of Huntsville, Alabama, Danielle Guess of Valdosta, Alex De La Cruz of Vienna, Virginia, Andrea and Marcelo Ordonez of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jack and Sabrina Hawthorne of Albermarel, North Carolina, Jason Hawthorne of Valdosta, Colton, Caleb, and Camron Guess of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Justin, Taylor, Ethan, and Sophie Guess and Jack and Jayden Hawthorne; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Joyce Barrett of Dasher and a sister and brother-in-law, Rochelle and Edward Miller of Lake Park; beloved pet and companion, Snoopy; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Willie Frank Barrett and Purdy H. Barrett, Sr.

Services for Margaret Guess will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. David Nelson, Mr. Marvin Greene and Mr. Keith Olbricht officiating. The burial will follow in the Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
