Margaret Ann Goodson Turner

Margaret Ann Goodson Turner, 78, of Valdosta, died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Langdale Hospice House.

Born in Valdosta on November 4, 1937 to the late Sam Dean and Ethel Goodson, Margaret was a proud member of the 1955 Valdosta High School graduating class. While living in Okinawa, Japan, she took University of Michigan classes via mail and attended the Tokyo International School of Art and Design.

After working as a Southern Bell telephone operator for 11 years, Margaret worked for civil service for three years as an overseas operator for the army in Okinawa. She also taught English at several Okinawan schools and universities.

Margaret loved reading, watching movies, cooking, entertaining, drawing, painting and watching Jeopardy! every night. She was a fine artist, a good cook, a wonderful mother, a fun grandmother, a loving sister, a sweet aunt, a dear friend and a faithful Christian.

She is survived by her two daughters Lisa Scherer McCarter of Tampa and Susan Scherer Jones of Valdosta; sons-in-law Rob McCarter of Tampa and Lee Jones of Valdosta, granddaughter Morgan Jones of Valdosta; sister Mattie Szymanski, Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law Marion and Vernon Stephenson, Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Richard Wicker, Americus; brother and sister-in-law Dicky and Peggy Goodson, Athens; sister-in-law Julianna Goodson, Atlanta; and many adored nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Margaret Ann Goodson Turner will be held Thursday, December 10 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with her nephew Reverend Jeremy Wicker presiding. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home is serving the family.
