Marcia Sue Bentley passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Fellowship Home Brookside following a prolonged period of declining health. She was born December 18, 1943 and was the only child of Daniel and Cleo Katz. Her strong Christian faith sustained her through many hardships and tragedies.
Sue graduated from Valdosta High School where she led the girls' basketball team to the State finals. In 1965, she graduated from Valdosta State College with a degree in education. She was a Lifetime member of the Valdosta Service League and was one of the editors of The Hors D'oeuvre Tray. In 1990, she published The Healthy Heart cookbook with recipes focusing on the special dietary needs of her son Greg. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, playing the piano, bridge, and travel, especially to France. Sue was a dedicated mother, a devoted grandmother, and a loyal friend. She was known for her kind-heartedness and readiness to help others.
She enjoyed living at Langdale Place and the many friends she made. At Fellowship Home, a move necessitated by her increased health needs, she received loving and gentle care. Hospice Nurse Betsy provided Sue with the extra care she needed and was an invaluable resource. We thank them all.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Cleo Katz, her sons Daniel Bennett and Greg Bennett. She is survived by her grandson Carl M. Bennett (Cam) and her two dear friends Pat Denmark and Jeneanne Grimsley. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Annette Turner Center for the Arts.
A remembrance service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in the chapel at Fellowship Home with Buddy LaHood and Deacon Stella Clark officiating.
A reception will be held at Fellowship Home following the service.
