Marcel Deshaun Gainer

Marcel DeShaun Gainer, age 9, formerly of Pascagoula, Mississippi, died on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at his home in Hahira after a long illness. Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi on August 30, 1996, Marcel and his family moved to Hahira following Hurricane Katrina. He was a loving big-hearted person who developed a fond relationship with everyone he met. Marcel was very strong willed and had a love for motorcycles, football, family and friends. He and his family attended St. Peters Catholic Church in Pascagoula and Hahira United Methodist Church in Hahira.

Survivors are his mother, Andrea (and Cedric) Champion of Hahira; his father, Chris Gainer of Memphis, Tennessee, brother, Trevon Pitts, sisters, Brittney Pitts and Jazzmyn Champion all of Hahira; stepbrother, Cedric Champion, Jr. of Atlanta; maternal grandfather, André G. Pitts Sr. and Cherrie of Gulf Port, Mississippi, maternal grandmother, Debra Gildersleeve of Pascagoula, maternal great grandfather, Gilbert Gildersleeve Sr. and Pearlean of Pascagoula, grandparents, Pattie and James Riley of Atlanta, paternal grandmother, Elzia Gainer, devoted family friends, Melanie Carter and Lorena Williams of Hahira; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other friends in Hahira and Pascagoula. Marcel was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Edna Gildersleeve, an aunt, Joyce Gainer, grandparents Lee James and Louisa Pitts, James Gainer, Sr. and a great aunt, Antoinette Gildersleeve.

The family will receive friends at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday in Pascagoula, Mississippi, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Scranton Cemetery.
