Maggie Adams

October 10, 1921 — January 5, 2011

MAGGIE ADAMS, 89, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born October 10, 1921, in Portsmouth, VA, a daughter of the late Wallace and Alice Rees McCain. Mrs. Adams attended First Christian Church and First Baptist Church of Valdosta. She had attended Auburn University where she was a cheerleader and was crowned Miss Auburn in 1942. She had been employed as a Draftsman at Maxwell Air Force Base. She was an accomplished artist, a serious and comical poet and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Adams was a volunteer and supporter of The Mailbox Club, a member of the Garden Club, an original member of the Singing Americans, and a longtime member of the Officers' Wives Club. She was a wonderful seamstress, known around town for her "Maggie" dolls.

Mrs. Adams is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Nathan J. Adams, Jr. and Carol of Centerville, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice E. (Betty) Grennan and Tim of Huntington Beach, CA, and Kathy A. Wenck and Bill of Valdosta and Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Dawn Adams and Russ Hunter, Melissa and Scott Forrest, Christy Adams, Zöe and Tim Jones, Pace Kelly, Xan Wenck, and Will Wenck; two great-grandchildren, Cydnee and Maggie; step grandchildren, Eric and Nicole Grennan, and Raechal and Sam Hardy; eight step great-grandchildren, Timothy Hunter, Jacob, Savannah, Brianna, Nate, Natalie, William and Alexander; and great-granddogs, Midget and Bella. She was predeceased by her husband Nathan Jasper Adams.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Adams will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Mac Weaver and Rev. Chris Michael officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Susan G.
