Mae Tyler Johnson, 86, of Hahira died Friday, February 6, 2009 at Lakehaven Nursing Home. She was born on April 6, 1922 in Hahira to the late Gordon C. and Minnie Lee Weldon Tyler and had lived in Atlanta before moving back to Hahira many years ago. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Hahira First Baptist Church and retired from the Department of Transportation. She was a lifetime member of the Engineering Association and one of the first women to attend Georgia Tech at night. She was a member of the Quota Club in Atlanta.
Survivors include two sisters, Verna Glass, Sylvia and James Parker all of Hahira, nieces and nephews, Mike Lewis of Hahira, Danny Tyler, Dana Jo Davis both of Atlanta, Ray (Penny) Parker, Missy(Troy) Davis, Joey(Sherry) Parker all of Hahira, numerous great nieces and great nephews, a special cousin, Shirley Quackenbox of Hahira. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Hall and Arthur Johnson, an infant daughter, sister and brother in law, Virginia and Raymond Lewis, brother and sisters in law, Dan (D.C.) and Nell Tyler, Betty Tyler, brother in law, Gerald Glass, a niece, Jerrilyn Rollins and a nephew, Genon Tyler.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Hahira First Baptist Church with Rev. David Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the services.
