Mae H. Anderson

Mae H. Anderson, 91, of Valdosta, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013, at Heritage House Nursing Home.

She was born June 14, 1921 in Newborn, a daughter of the late James Lovic and Mary Lillie Childs Harwell. After graduating from Newborn High School she went on to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics at Berry College, Rome. In 1943 she was united in marriage with Alfred Wilton Anderson in Gadsden, AL, and the couple moved to Valdosta in 1951. Mrs. Anderson was co-owner, with her husband, of Little Britches Children's Shop, which she operated for twenty-five years with her daughter, Nina Anderson Pitcock. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Valdosta, which she loved very much. Mrs. Anderson was an excellent cook, wonderful seamstress, loved animals and was charitable to many Christian and animal organizations.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra G. Anderson of Atlanta, and Nina Anderson Pitcock of Quitman; one grandson, John Wilton and wife Mandy Barfield Pitcock of Summerville, SC; one granddaughter, Allison Maesha Pitcock of Valdosta; one great-grandson, John Mason Pitcock of Summerville, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Thomas Pitcock; two sisters, Myrtice Harwell and Mattie Harwell; one brother, Carlton Harwell; and a nephew, Wesley Harwell.

The Graveside Services for Mrs. Anderson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Bob Moon officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
