M. Bryant Martin, Jr.

M. Bryant Martin Jr. peacefully passed away Friday April 12, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bryant Martin on November 20, 1936. He was raised in McRae, Georgia. He graduated from Clemson University, where he played basketball and received his Juris Doctor degree (JD) from Atlanta Law School. He started his 47-year career with State Farm Insurance in Atlanta in 1960 and in 1968 Bryant started his own agency in Valdosta. He served as president of Kiwanis Club and Life Underwriters. He was a member of Valdosta Country Club, and an active member of many other local organizations. He belonged to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. While Bryant enjoyed spending time with his friends on the golf course and in the locker room, his favorite thing to do was spend time with family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Maryann K. Martin and his three children, M. Bryant “Marty” Martin III (Donna), Alise Martin Shook (Howard) and Bradley Keene Martin (Denise). He was overwhelmingly proud of his six grandchildren, Mary Taylor Martin, Zachery Hall Martin, Catherine Lee Shook, Mary Martin Shook, Maggie Keene Martin and Jack Bradley Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents.


Funeral mass will be held at 1 P.M. Monday April 15, 2019 at St. John the
Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Brian LaBurt officiating. A private entombment will be held at Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Mr. and Mrs. Martin’s nephews, Brian Benton, Michael Benton, Stewart Keene, Lehman Routh, Will Routh, and Joel Trednick will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. John the Evangelist Catholic School at 800 Gornto Road Valdosta, Ga 31602. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
