Lucille Dawson White

August 15, 1913 — June 11, 2010

Lucille Fontaine Wheeler Dawson White, 96, of Valdosta died on Friday, June 11, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Bainbridge, GA on August 15, 1913 to the late William Alfred and Mary Alice Waller Wheeler. She graduated from Bainbridge High School and began working at Miller-Hydro Bottling Co. in Bainbridge. She later became a dental assistant in Bainbridge. She married Jack Dawson from Charleston, S.C. in 1940 and they moved to Valdosta in 1942 where she spent the remainder of her life. She was later married to Jake White from 1976 until his death in 1981. She worked in a variety of jobs in Valdosta, such as kindergarten teacher, secretary in the law firm of Franklin, Coleman, Elliott and Blackburn, sales associate at Pink Petunia Dress Shop and at Creative Interiors. She was a loyal supporter and volunteer at The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts and at the age of 80, she became quite an accomplished artist with her paintings in water-color and oils. As an artist, she entered her works in the annual “Spring Into Art” for many years. She also was an avid bridge player and loved to work cross-word puzzles. Most of all, she loved her family and she loved people, and was dearly loved by everyone who knew her. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church from 1942 until her death. She was the best mother and friend anyone could ever have and will be forever missed by all.
