Lucille Harrison Bedene, 95 of Ray City, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at her residence. Mrs. Bedene was born in Peckville, PA to the late George & Nettie Smith Harrison, on December 27, 1929. Growing up in Carbondale, PA, Lucille graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1948. After high school, she attended nursing school at St Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, graduating in 1952. She worked at St. Joseph’s as a nurse until 1958 when she married Paul Edward Bedene on October 25, 1958. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Michigan where Paul was based in the U.S. Air Force. In 1968, the Bedene’s were moved to Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA and they stayed in Valdosta when Paul retired in 1972. Lucille took her nursing skills to Owens Illinois Paper Mill where she worked for 30 years, until her retirement in 2011. She was also a devoted homemaker, who loved spending time with and caring for her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Hendrickson, & her husband Barry of St. Louis, MO, Barbara Bedene Fields, & her husband Randy of Temple GA; three sons, Paul Bedene & his wife, Kristal of Valdosta, and Donald Bedene & his wife Carri, of Ray City, James Bedene also of Ray City and a daughter in law, Lori Bedene of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Alec Hendrickson and Paul Hendrickson, both of St. Louis, MO, John Bedene, Jr. of Valdosta, Elizabeth Fields of Temple, GA, and Seth Bedene of USS George Washington. Also surviving is her devoted sister Ethel Harrison of Ray City and three step grandchildren, Ashleigh Thomas of Telluride, CO, Michelle McCoy of Ray City and Francis Wasikowski of Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Bedene and a son, John Charles Bedene.
The funeral in Valdosta, GA will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Steve Stalvey will officiate the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 am until service time. Mrs. Bedene will be buried beside her husband at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Forest City, PA on April 26, 2025.
