Lt. Col. Larry Deal Yarbrough, Ret., a.k.a. Honey, a.k.a. Daddy, a.k.a. Papa, a.k.a. Col. Y, a.k.a. Mr. Y, a.k.a. Mr. Larry, changed addresses Jan. 19, 2020, to his mansion in the sky with the Lord.
He was 75 years old.
The son of CMSgt. Pat A. Yarbrough and Marcia Lynn (Deal) Yarbrough, Larry was born April 14, 1944, in Orlando, Fla.
He graduated the University of Georgia with a BS in history, served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as transportation commander. He later served as evening director of Valdosta Technical College for several years.
He was a member of Bemiss United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy Yarbrough of Valdosta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jetty and Dean Poling and Cindy and Craig Bardes, all of Valdosta; five grandsons, Brian Poling, Daniel Poling, Andrew Bardes, Matthew Poling and James Bardes, all of Valdosta; sisters and brother, Gayla (Wes) Myers of Los Alamos, N.M., Denise (Rich) Resler of Guntersville, Ala., Karen (Mike) Bass of Lake Park, Ga., and Scott Yarbrough of Nashville, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Wade Myers, Carla Myers, Mitch Resler, Tracey Resler Cabrera, Michael Bass, Clint Bass, Kayla Bass Pesce; several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon Thursday, Jan. 23, Bemiss United Methodist Church, 4879 Bemiss Road, with the Rev. Bob Ellis officiating. Military graveside services will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta.
