Lowell W. Herring

October 1, 1941 — July 17, 2020

Lowell W. Herring, 78, of Echols County died Friday, July 17, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Valdosta to the late Edgar Perry and Stella Waldron Herring and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Herring was a member of Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church, a retired farmer and PCS Phosphate as a Lab Technician. He enjoyed his tractors and watching westerns on television. Mr. Herring was a humble, kind and gentle man. Mr. Herring served on the Slash Pine EMC Board of Directors, Echols County DFACS Board and the Echols County School Board.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Hodges Herring; his children and spouses, Tina and Kirby Tucker of Hahira, Patrick and Jenny Herring, Derek and Dana Herring all of Echols Co., his stepdaughter, Tammy Carter of Lake Park, his stepson, Ricky Todd Hodges of Hahira; his grandchildren, Leslie Tucker, Dale J. Herring, Kari and Shawn Snow, Kyle and Aimee Herring, Erin and Dallas McRae, Cassie Herring and her fiance’ Trey Sandlin, Lindsey Herring, Jada and James Hatcher; his great grandchildren, Allee Snow, Emmy Snow, Tucker Snow, Madison McRae; sister and brother in law, Linda Kay and Del Clarke of South Dakota; numerous brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 and half years, Shirley Register Herring, a stepson, Eddie Hodges and a sister, Faye Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. James Davis, Rev. Phillip Badley and Rev. Jaime Register officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayfare Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10am-11am at the church. Memorials may be made to Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
