Loretta Colson Clayton

Loretta Colson Clayton, 75 of Statenville, GA, died on Monday, January 24, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born on May 12, 1929, in Lowndes County, GA she was the daughter of the late John Frank Colson and Lola Carter Colson. She was a member of the Statenville United Methodist Church and the Echols County Historical County.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Russell and Betsy Clayton of Statenville, GA, Vicki and Jim Bland of Springfield, VA, Sylvia and Joe Blas of Hueytown, AL, Leslie and Lu Clayton of Jennings, FL; daughter-in-law, Peggy Clayton of Statenville, GA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters Helen Staten of Lake City, FL, Nona Clayton of Lake Park, GA and a brother, John Ellis Colson of Butler, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest G. Clayton, a son, Owen Wesley Clayton, half-sisters, Ola Belle Golf, Lizzie Burch, Maude Thompson and half-brothers, John Frank Colson, Jr., George Washington Colson, Flynn Harris Colson, Carlos Wesley Colson, and Turner Colson.

Graveside services for Mrs. Clayton will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Carter Cemetery with Reverend Ann Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
