LONNIE W. LIGHTSEY, 89, of Lake Park died Thursday, February 24, 2005. He was born on February 2, 1916 in Echols County to the late Willy M. and Rebecca McLane Lightsey and grew up in Echols and Lowndes Counties. Mr. Lightsey was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. He joined the Army Air Force and served four years and met and married Mildred L. (Milly) Judy on December 10, 1943. Mr. Lightsey lived in San Bernardino, CA for many years before returning to Lake Park in 1977. He was a retired mail carrier with the United States Postal Service and served on the Lake Park City Council for twelve years.

Survivors include a daughter, Claudette M. Siebert of LaGrange, Calif., two grandchildren, Lonnie Jayer Siebert of Big Bear Lake, Calif. and Shawnie (Greg) Ulmer of Kennesaw, GA, four great grandsons, Harrison Ulmer and Taylor Ulmer both of Kennesaw and Brendan Siebert and Ryan Ainley, both of San Diego, CA; one sister in law, Ruby Lightsey of Echols County, many nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and a very special friend who took care of Mr. Lightsey, and his wife before him, for many years, Ellie Wardwell of Clyattville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Milly in October 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Sardis Baptist Church in Echols County with the Rev. Marvin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P. O.
