Lois Jane Retterbush, age 90, of Valdosta died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at her home. She was born on September 19, 1923 in Swanton, Ohio and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fred Cook of Swanton, Ohio.
She was a Registered Nurse who attended Toledo University and Mary Manse College. She is a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing, which is located in Toledo, Ohio. She was a nurse in various institutions including Smith Hospital, Greenleaf, and South Georgia Medical Center. She was also active in teaching CPR/First Aid to various individuals in the community.
She was also active in various community organizations such as Neighborhood Watch and Learning in Retirement. She was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was the former Chairman of the Bereavement Committee. She was also a devoted and loving mother to her eight children.
She is survived by her eight children and their spouses listed as follows according to age, starting with the oldest: Dr. David and Denise Retterbush of Valdosta; Janet Retterbush-Guerke and Wayne of Tifton; Dr. Mark Retterbush of Valdosta; Scott Retterbush and Kay of Valdosta; Billy Retterbush and Wanda of Nashville; Lisa Stratman and Dave of Parker, CO; Blake Retterbush and Angie of Jacksonville
FL; and John Retterbush and Ruthann of Wellington, FL. There are 11 grandchildren as follows: Lisa (Matt) Shelton, Patrick (Elizabeth) Retterbush , Aaron Retterbush, Heather Retterbush, Ashley Stratman, Ryan Stratman, Kevin Stratman, Christie Stratman, Christopher Retterbush, Jonathan Retterbush, William Retterbush III, Shanna Barfield, and April Simmons. There are also 9 great grandchildren which are listed as follows; Anna Grace Decoudres, Charlotte Shelton, Camryn Simmons, Cannon Simmons, Addie Simmons, Taylor Simmons, Gracie Barfield, Savannah Barfield and Tucker Barfield. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Ray Levreault officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. A Rosary Service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 6:00 PM at the church and the visitation will follow from 6:30-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church or St. John's Catholic School, 800 Gornto Road, Valdosta, GA 31602.
