Linda Simpson Todd Black, 75, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at her residence. Born in Hahira to the late Hoyt R. & Dorothy Hall Simpson, she has lived in this area all her life. Growing up in Barney, she graduated from Brooks County High School in 1962. She went on to get a degree in Education and began teaching at Lowndes High School in 1966. Later she received her Specialist Degree in Education from Valdosta State University. She continued teaching Business classes at Lowndes for 30 years until her retirement in 1996. Linda was also a faithful Sunday School teacher for most of her life and most recently taught a Woman’s Bible Study at her church, Covenant Baptist Church. Cooking food to bring to folks in the Benevolence ministry of her church was also something she faithfully did to show love to folks in need. Linda was a member of the Lowndes /Valdosta Retired Teachers Association and greatly enjoyed making her yard beautiful with flowers.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Black of Valdosta, her step son, Tommy (& Ellen) Todd, Jr. of Valdosta; step daughter, Cindy (& Gerry) Russo of Valdosta; two granddaughters, Erin Russo of Valdosta and Kelsey Russo of Atlanta. Also surviving are two brothers, James Simpson of Hahira, Mack (& Kay) Simpson of Barney and a step grandson, Mike Warren of Valdosta. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Tommy Todd, Sr., a brother, Hoyt R. Simpson, Jr. a sister, Sylvia S. Croft and a sister in law, Patricia Simpson.
The funeral for Mrs. Black will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Gerry Russo will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Covenant Baptist Church.
