Lila Catherine (Skip) Mead, 87, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, December 09, 2015, at her home. Born in Pontiac, Michigan, on July 27, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Albert R. and Ruth Louella Husted Klock. She grew up in Michigan. She met her future husband, Daniel (Dan) Mead, in Daytona in 1953 and they were soon married. The Airforce moved the family to Tennessee, Alaska, Moody Air Force Base, Turkey, Kansas and back to Moody where Dan retired in 1964. The Meads lived in Valdosta until the late 1970's when they moved to Suwannee, Florida. While in Suwannee, Dan and Lila were saved in Christ. In 1987 they returned to Valdosta and joined Greenwood Baptist Church where Lila was very active in Children's Ministry, including a Puppet Ministry and sharing her love of crafts. She taught children's Sunday School, ladies bible studies and Sunday school and also ministered to local nursing home residents. After her husband's illness and death, Lila joined Northside Baptist Church and once again became active in Children's Ministry. She was a fine Christian who was well beloved by family and friends.
Survivors are her children and their spouses, William P. and Pat Mead of Hamilton, Mary C. Reynolds of Ocala, Florida, Danny J. Mead of Valdosta, James and Shirley Mead of Tifton, Bobbi and Ed Fletcher of Melrose, Florida, Joy and Steve Jennings of Valdosta; sister, Marge Klock of Valdosta; brothers and sister in law, Danny and Joyce Klock of Perry, Florida, Bob Klock of Quitman; sister, Florence Tassell of Champagne, Illinois; nineteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial to follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Reverend Michael Bass and Dr. Robby Foster will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church Children's Ministry or to Greenwood Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
