Libby Jo Rogers

Libby Jo Rogers, 61, of Lake Park died on Monday, June 20, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy period of declining health. She was born on July 11, 1954 in Lake Park to the late M.G. and Evelyn Kinsey Porter and has been a resident of this area all of her life. She was a homemaker, a caregiver to her mother-in-law, and of the Christian faith. Libby Jo was a talented and versatile artist whose paintings and crafts were well known to many in the community, and was also a fabulous cook. She was the owner/operator of Libby's Bears and Santa's gift shop and shared her love of art with all who came in contact with her. Libby had a joyful and happy spirit about her despite the many health problems she had. She was not above pulling a good prank on someone and loved to laugh and make other smile and laugh as well. She was a loving mother and sister.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Jeremy Becton of Lake Park; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Carolyn Nutt of Waynesboro, Tennessee, Linda and Rudy Ealy of Little Rock, Arkansas, Wanda and Johnny Swilley of Valdosta, Sue Plair also of Valdosta, and Debra Porter of Atlanta; a brother and sister-in-law, Benny and Margaret Porter of Lake Park; her four-legged friend, Sassy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hatcher Rogers; a sister, Mary Frances Hickman; and a brother, Lawrence Porter.

Services for Libby Jo Rogers will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home of Lake Park. Reverend Mickey Corbett will officiate. The committal will follow in the Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
