Lewis E. “Lew” Weathers, 74, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 27, 1947, Lew was the son of the late William Jackson and Anna Mae Burney Weathers. He grew up in Jacksonville and after high school he joined the United States Air Force, served a brief stint, left the Air Force and then re-joined. He served for 22 years in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic before his retirement in July of 1988. Lew was stationed in Hawaii, Arizona, Maine and at Moody Air Force Base. He also served a tour of duty in Thailand. Lew began a second career with the U.S. Postal Service as the city carrier for Hahira and served the folks of Hahira by delivering their mail for over 18 years until his final retirement in 2008. He was a member of the American Legion and was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church. Lew was a true people person, everyone loved him, and he loved everyone. A devoted family man; he was a loving husband and father and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Debra Weathers of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Jeff and Mara Thibodeau of Valdosta; son, Richard L. Weathers of Norton, Massachusetts, daughter and son in law, Rhonda and Jeff Caldwell of Warren, Ohio, son and daughter in law, Jamey and Kelly Thibodeau of Mapleton, Maine, son and daughter in law, Troy and Stephanie Weathers of Valdosta; grandchildren, Kyle Maffitt, Tanner Caldwell, Gavin Caldwell, Abigail Thibodeau, Madison Weathers, Jackson Weathers, Maci Weathers, Haley Thibodeau, Kamryn Thibodeau, Emily Weathers; great grandson, Micah Maffitt; special sister, Rusty Plissey of Valdosta, and God Children, Adam Plissey, Mary Plissey, and Melissa Kostyu.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Wayne Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Morningside Baptist Building Fund.
