Leverne Owens Crosby

LeVerne Owens Crosby, 75, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 14, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was born January 5, 1938 in Albany, a daughter of the late John and Bertha McAfee Owens. Mrs. Crosby attended Swilley Hill Church of God and Abundant Life Church of God. She was a devoted wife, mother and home maker who cared greatly for her family.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Joe Crosby; two sons, Joel Crosby and wife Melissa, and Rick Crosby; four grandchildren, Jared Crosby and wife Sheree, Jeremy, Kaitlyn and Justin Crosby; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Madison and Jordan Crosby, all of Valdosta; two sisters, Lanelle Wheelis of Jacksonville, FL, and Wanda Bass and husband Dan of Canton; one brother, Rev. Wayne Owens and wife Sue of Valdosta; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Jean Jones and Anita Mann.

The funeral service for Mrs. Crosby will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Abundant Life Church of God with Rev. Wayne Hughes and Rev. Wayne Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
