Letha Courson Phelps

LETHA COURSON PHELPS, 82, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home, Ludowici.

She was born January 8, 1928 in Waycross, a daughter of the late Allen W. and Ressie Exum Courson. On December 16, 1944 she was united in marriage with James Allison Phelps. Mr. Phelps died March 17, 2007. She was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Phelps loved sewing, decorating her home, and her flower gardens.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her three children, Deborah Phelps Blanton of Lake Park, David and wife Linda Phelps of Valdosta, and Donna P. Rowe of Hinesville; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie and husband Carey "Sonny" Wells of Valdosta, , Doris Pope of Jacksonville, FL, and Emily Watson of FL; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson; a son-in-law, Joseph Rowe; two sisters, Pauline Phelps and Vernell Dietrich; and two brothers, Calvin and Marvin Courson.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Phelps will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Dr. Skip Van Nus officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Cemetery, Berrien County. Mrs. Phelps' family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 to 11:00 am Thursday, at the funeral home.
