Leslie (Papa) Roe Davis, Sr., 90, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born on February 4, 1916, in Mobile, AL, he was the son of the late Henry Taylor and Ida Irene Davis. Mr. Davis was a self employed jeweler for 39 years and was a veteran of the United States Army. From 1955 – 1960, he served two terms on the Valdosta City Council and was President of the Boys Club in 1960. He loved his family, had many friends and was an avid golfer, gardener and fisherman. He was fondly known as Paw Paw, Papa and Papa D. He was a member of Northside Baptist church.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Helen Davis of Valdosta; children, Leslie R., Jr. and Margie Davis, Charles E. (Eddy) and Pam Davis and Lu Ann Powell all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Bucky Davis of Kathleen, GA, Becky (Jody) Platt of Lake Park, Amanda Corbin of Valdosta, Laura (Tom) Pritchett of Tifton, Charles (Bubba) Davis, Leslie Nicole (Adam) Steel, Kristin (Dusty) Edwards and Rebekah Powell all of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Christian Davis of Kathleen, GA, Autumn and Addison Platt of Lake Park, Gwyneth Elisa Steel and Weston Edwards both of Valdosta; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman and Robin Bennett of Hahira; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Ernest McDonald of Valdosta, Carolyn and Huey Manges of Lake Park, Louise B. and John Leonetti of St. Augustine, FL, LaVerne and Wade Jackson of Valdosta; sister-in-law, Ruby Davis of Altoona, AL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Len Morgan and two grandchildren, Richi and Micki Morgan.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis and Rev. S. G. Folsom officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys Ranch, the Boys Club, Hospice of South Georgia or charity of choice.
