Leroy Southall

Leroy Southall, 91, of Hahira died Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Berrien Nursing Center in Nashville, GA. He was born on September 28, 1925 in Clyattville, GA to the late James Irvin Southall and Nina Bell Gravitt Southall. Mr. Southall served in the United States Army during World War II. He was retired from Owens-Illinois after thirty three and a half years of service. Mr. Southall was a member of Redland Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was a 1944 graduate of Clyattville High School. Mr. Southall enjoyed fishing, farming and gardening. He loved his family, his cows and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Wilkins Southall of Hahira, son and daughter in law, Jamie and Elaine Southall of Valdosta, daughter, Jan Phillips of Lake Park, step daughter, Amanda Wilkins Darling (Frank), step son, William Wilkins, all of Hahira, step daughter, Babette Wilkins Metts (Gary) of Charleston, SC, five grandchildren, Stephanie Peterson, Bubba Southall (Paige), Justin Barrett (Leslie), Jessica Barrett and Kristian Darling, six great grandchildren, Daniel Peterson, Stephen Peterson, Avery Southall, Analei Barrett, Marlee Cowart and Emmett Cowart, three sisters, Winona Lanoux of Jacksonville, FL, Juanita Campbell of Athens, AL and Marie Carter (Charles) of Lake Park. Mr. Southall is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Hazel Nell Southall, son in law, Wayne Phillips, sisters, Jimmie Lee Watkins, Clifford Newcomb and Bertha Steinberg and brother, J. D. Southall.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at eleven thirty a. m. at Redland Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from ten a. m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA or to the building fund of Redland Baptist Church, 4888 Rocky Ford Road, Valdosta, GA.
